Payhip: what it takes to get approved.

Solo creators selling e-books, courses, memberships, coaching and software (with auto-generated or uploaded license keys) from a hosted store, who want low fees and payments straight into their own PayPal/Stripe account.

Networks change their rules. Every point below links to its source and the date we read it; check it the day you submit.

Who it suits

The seller's own audience and affiliates the seller personally recruits; a small Payhip marketplace adds some discovery for approved digital products.

Fees

Free Forever plan $0/month + 5% Payhip transaction fee; Plus $29/month + 2%; Pro $99/month + 0% (per help article; payhip.com/pricing not readable: HTTP 403). PayPal/Stripe processing fees on top (Stripe standard 2.9% + $0.30; PayPal cards 2.99% + fixed fee, +1.5% international). No extra fee for marketplace sales. Payhip collects EU/UK digital VAT by default.

What reviewers check on the sales page

Affiliate page and affiliate info

No JV page field or public affiliate marketplace. Seller shares a unique affiliate signup URL (Marketing > Affiliates); affiliate enters a PayPal email; seller approves, then Add Product with commission % (or all products). Links look like https://payhip.com/b/<product>/<affiliatekey>; 30-day cookie, last-touch attribution. Payhip does not pay affiliates: seller pays them (monthly Affiliate Sales Report lists PayPal emails and commissions).

Delivery

After checkout the buyer is sent to a Payhip download page and emailed a receipt link (download limit default 5; optional PDF stamping; optional redirect to a seller URL after checkout). License keys: GET https://payhip.com/api/v2/license/verify?license_key=... with header product-secret-key (per-product secret); PUT license/enable, license/disable, license/usage, license/decrease; empty response on failure; keys auto-disabled when the transaction is refunded. Webhooks (Settings > Developer, comma-separated URLs): events paid, refunded, subscription.created, subscription.deleted; JSON POST, prices in cents; 'signature' = sha256 of your API key; non-200 retried hourly for up to 3 hours.

Reviewer access

No pre-sale product review documented; marketplace approval reviews the listing (no reviewer-access field documented).

Approval

No approval to sell: a product is live when set Visible (after a payment processor is connected). Marketplace listing needs store eligibility plus per-product approval, aimed at within 10 days.

Affiliate approval

Manual: affiliates sign up via the seller's code and appear as pending; seller clicks Approve and assigns products/commission.

Marketplace visibility

Marketplace (digital products only): store must have at least $10 USD in total sales (self-purchases excluded) and be reviewed by Payhip's accounts team; then select a category in the product's Category & Tags tab; per-product approval status/reason shown under Products > Marketplace; target within 10 days. No extra marketplace fee.

Refunds

Each seller sets their own refund policy; Payhip does not hold funds and cannot issue refunds. Seller refunds in PayPal (Activity > All Transactions > Refund) or Stripe (Payments > Refund payment); Payhip reflects the refund and sends the refunded webhook.
